The Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood announced on Tuesday that he has been tested positive for Covid-19.
In his tweet, the Education Minister said that he is experiencing mild symptoms for now and is hoping for a speedy recovery. In recent times Mahmood is among the other top federal, provincial, and government officials to have contracted the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic.
At the start of the year, President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan also tested positive for Coronavirus. Pakistan has recently faced a large influx of positive cases which resulted in partial to full lockdowns across the country. On Monday the total number of officially reported cases was estimated to be around 2,253 which pushed the total amount to 905,852.
Around 92 more patients also succumbed to the virus in 24 hours. The country’s death toll has now reached 20,400. In comparison, around 2,783 people also recovered from Covid with around 823,157 individuals having already recovered.
With the coronavirus cases relatively decreasing in the country, tourist and educational activities have started to resume under the guidance of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
Alternately, educational activities were resumed in 16 districts of Punjab, 21 in KPK, and all districts across Quetta and Balochistan.
